Alexa+ becomes a full product in the US

Amazon confirmed on September 1, 2026 that Alexa+, its generative-AI version of the Alexa assistant, is now available across the entire United States, ending the Early Access phase it had run there since earlier this year.

Prime members get the full assistant for their household at no extra cost, non-Prime users pay $19.99 a month for unlimited access across Alexa-enabled devices, Alexa.com and the Alexa app, and everyone else can use a free, usage-limited text-chat tier without a subscription. Amazon's Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Echo, said customers are embracing that "this is not the same old Alexa," and the company reports usage running more than twice as high as with the previous, non-generative assistant.

The rollout order nobody talked about

The United Kingdom and four euro-area countries had Alexa+ in Early Access months before the United States did, and on paper that looked like a straightforward European head start.

The UK opened Early Access on March 19, 2026, Italy followed on April 15, Spain on April 23, Germany on May 7 and France on May 26, each under the same Early Access label the US used until September 1.

The table below lines up each market's Early Access start date against the non-Prime monthly price Amazon has published for after Early Access ends, and it's that second column where the sequencing flips: the US is the only market here that has actually reached those terms.

What 'Early Access' pricing actually becomes

Once a market exits Early Access, the pricing structure simply becomes real: Prime members keep the full Alexa+ experience for their household at no additional charge, and non-Prime subscribers pay the flat monthly fee Amazon set out from the start.

Amazon hasn't disclosed any discount, trial extension or bridge period for the switch, and the US case shows the change appears to apply automatically to existing accounts rather than through a separate signup step or announcement.

What to check on your own Alexa account

Nothing in Amazon's announcement tells UK, Italian, Spanish, German or French Prime members exactly when their own Early Access period will end, so the practical move is to check the Alexa app or Alexa.com directly rather than wait for a press release.

Because the US graduation happened without a separate public event, a household or business account elsewhere could move to full terms quietly, well before Amazon says so in a headline.

Why the sequencing matters for European owners

A small business or household that adopted Alexa+ this spring under the Early Access label was, by Amazon's own dates, ahead of the United States by as much as five months, yet it's the US that has now reached full commercial terms first.

For an owner in the UK who built Alexa+ into a household or business routine this spring, that reversal is the useful fact here: your own account is more likely to move to full terms quietly, the way it just did in the US, than through a separate announcement.
