The Round

Repodo raised an 8.2 million euro pre-seed round, well above the 500,000 to 3 million euro range typical of European pre-seed deals in 2026. Hedosophia and Seed Capital led the investment.

The founders are Ken Villum Klausen, Peter Andreasen and Joachim Strøjer Hansen, who previously built Lunar, a Nordic digital banking challenger, together with licensed auditor Anders Houmann. The company describes itself as "the world's first AI-native authorised audit firm."

What The AI Actually Does, And What It Does Not

Repodo draws a specific, legally necessary line: AI automates the mechanical parts of an audit, and a licensed human keeps everything that requires judgment. "AI takes the repetitive work, collecting data, reconciliations, documentation, transaction analysis, so auditors can spend their time on risk, judgement and the conversations technology cannot replace," the company states.

Statutory sign-off on an audit remains a licensed human function under European audit law. This is not a case of AI replacing regulated professional judgment; it automates the labor underneath it while leaving the liability and the signature exactly where regulation puts them.

Why This Targets The Big Four Specifically

Repodo positions itself explicitly against the Big Four, Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC, in a European statutory audit market it puts at over 74 billion dollars. Small and mid-sized businesses are the group most exposed to Big Four fee structures built around large-enterprise engagements.

An AI-native firm can lower the marginal cost of the mechanical audit work while keeping the same regulated sign-off, which is the only kind of price argument that can survive contact with audit regulators: it does not ask them to accept less oversight, only a cheaper way to produce the same oversight.

What This Means For European SMB Owners

Any European small or mid-sized business currently paying Big Four or mid-tier audit fees now has a concrete, funded alternative to watch as it expands beyond Denmark. Statutory audit remains mandatory in many EU jurisdictions above certain size thresholds, so cost is not optional.

Repodo's funding and go-to-market bet is a signal of investor confidence that an AI-native audit model can clear both the regulatory bar and the market bar at once, worth tracking as it seeks to expand into other EU markets.
