The Dates In One Table

Microsoft's lifecycle pages list three endings in the next 30 days. The pages stamp their times in Pacific Time, so check the exact moment against your own time zone.

BleepingComputer, writing on Monday 12 October, places the end for Windows Server 2022 and for 24H2 Home and Pro in that same week, the week of the 14 October date on the lifecycle pages.

What Actually Stops On 14 October

For Windows Server 2022 the change is from mainstream to extended support. Under Microsoft's Fixed Lifecycle Policy, mainstream support includes security updates, non-security updates and design change requests. Extended support keeps security updates at no additional cost but drops non-security updates and design changes, and Microsoft will not accept requests for warranty support or new features.

For Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro the change is harsher. BleepingComputer reports that these editions stop receiving updates this week, so a small business with Pro laptops still on 24H2 has days, not months, to move to 25H2 or 26H2.

Why November Is The One Fleets Miss

Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise get their last security update in November 2026, Microsoft says, which is a month out and far enough away to forget. Microsoft recommends moving eligible devices to 26H2.

26H2 became generally available in September as an enablement package, rolled out in phases to eligible devices. Users can check for it manually under Settings, Windows Update. BleepingComputer adds that Microsoft warned devices on unsupported Windows versions will stop receiving security updates after next year's Windows Update certificate rotation, so treat a retired version as unpatched, not as temporarily behind.

Three Questions For This Week

Ask three things of every machine and server: which version it runs, which edition it is and who updates it. The first two come from a settings screen or an inventory export, and the third decides whether anything happens before the date.

For the Home and Pro laptops on 24H2 and the Enterprise fleet on 23H2, missing a date means the devices stop receiving security updates. For Server 2022 the security fixes continue until 2031, but non-security updates and the mainstream support benefits end. Start with the 24H2 laptops, then the Server 2022 hosts, then the 23H2 Enterprise fleet.
