Five Names on One Pair of Glasses
Snap did not build an enterprise AI platform for its Specs glasses this week; it borrowed four of them. On September 16, Snap announced an alliance with Salesforce, Amazon Web Services, Nvidia, Trifork and Hololight to bring Specs into retail floors, factories and field operations, each partner adding its own AI layer on top of the same $2,195 (roughly EUR2,000) hardware.
The five contributions do different jobs, and none of them talk to each other natively:

The One Line Every Press Release Skipped
None of the five partners disclosed pricing, revenue share or contract length for their part of the alliance. Snap set the $2,195 hardware price on its own months ago; what an enterprise buyer pays Salesforce for Agentforce seats, AWS for Amazon Quick queries, or Nvidia for XR licensing was left for each vendor's own sales team to name later.
That gap matters more the longer a deployment runs. A three-year rollout across a warehouse or a hospital ward is not one negotiation with one price sheet; it is four separate, renewable commercial relationships, any one of which can reprice or restructure without the other three, or Snap, having any say.
Where the Data Actually Sits
Only one of the four software partners keeps a company's own data from leaving the building. Nvidia's XR agents run on a local workstation, reading a worker's surroundings and answering without sending anything to an outside cloud.
Salesforce's Agentforce and AWS's Amazon Quick both route through their own cloud services to work at all, which means a hospital, bank or manufacturer adopting Specs is choosing, partner by partner, whether its floor-level operational data leaves its own infrastructure. Snap has not published a single data-residency policy covering all four.
A Hardware Company Selling Someone Else's Software Roadmap
Snap controls the glasses. It controls none of the four AI platforms running on them. That split is not new for Snap: in August, the company published Specs' network latency figures while withholding the brightness numbers reviewers had been asking for since June, drawing exactly the criticism a hardware maker earns when it discloses the metric that flatters it and skips the one that does not.
The enterprise pitch now asks a buyer to extend that same trust four more times, once per software partner, before a single unit ships. The reasonable response is not to wait for Snap to publish more; it is for a buyer to get pricing, data-residency and contract-length terms in writing from each of the four vendors separately, before treating Specs as one purchase instead of five.
